Arrival/Accommodation
If you arrive at Arlanda airport, you can take either the airport shuttle ("Flygbussen") or airport train ("Arlanda Express") into town. The flight bus arrives at “Cityterminalen” and the fast train at “Centralstation”. Both are parts of the Central Station. The bus takes 40 min and the train takes 20 min.
If you arrive at Skavsta airport, take the airport shuttle ("Flygbussen") to “Cityterminalen”. This bus takes about 1 h 20 min.
Upon arrival at Cityterminalen/Centralstation, we advice you to buy a 1 month card for the public transportations. Up-to-date prices can be found at www.sl.se, click for “other languages”. You may use the ticket for all local traffic in Stockholm (i.e. the busses, subways and commuter trains). You can buy tickets or cards at any SL-office or at the "Pressbyrån" stores that are adjacent to many subway stations.
For more information about your accommodation, please contact the University Accommodation Centre at Karolinska (www.uac.se)
Arriving without a host student/contact person
In the same building complex as the Central Station, you also find the “T-Centralen” which is the central subway station from which you can go in all directions with the 3 different subway lines. The subway is marked with a “T” symbol (short for “Tunnelbana”, the Swedish word for subway).
If you will stay at PAX (Emmylundsvägen) or STRIX (Armégatan), take the subway towards “Akalla” or “Hjulsta” from T-Centralen. Get off at the station called “Västra Skogen”. From the subway station it takes about 5 min to walk to PAX (a yellow brick building) and 10 min to STRIX (a red brick building). Just ask someone about the way if feeling lost.
If you will stay at Jägargatan, take the subway towards Skarpnäck, Hagsätra or Farsta and get off at the station called Slussen. Take bus number 43 towards Tanto and get off at the bus stop called Jägargatan. One can also take a commuter train (not to be mixed up with the subways) to Södra Station (one stop from the Central Station) and then walk for about 10 min.
If you need to get the key to your room from the University Accommodation Centre first (only for students staying at Strix or Pax) take bus number 47 towards Tomteboda from the “Cityterminalen”/”Centralstation”. Get off at the end station (Tomteboda). From there it takes about 10 min to walk to University Accommodation Centre (UAC). Use the map of the Karolinska Institute Campus. UACs address is Fogdevreten 2A. If arriving from Arlanda airport with the flight coaches (Flygbussarna), you can also jump off one stop before the “Cityterminalen” called “Sankt Eriksplan” and then take bus number 3 towards “Karolinska Sjukhuset”. Get off at “Karolinska Institutet” (the ride takes about 5 min, remember that you’d need a ticket or card for the public transportations though, it can be bought at the “Pressbyrån store” downstairs in the subway station at “Sankt Eriksplan”). Note the opening hours of UAC (www.uac.se). If you are unable to visit UAC during these hours to pick up your key, contact them to find other possibilities.
We hope this description will help you on your way. If you find it tricky to get to your accommodation, you can of course always take a taxi. Feel free to email Global Friends if you have any questions, we can also provide you with a phone number to someone who can help guiding you “at distance”. Even if calling doesn’t work, text messages may still be supported at least for those using other European network companies.
