It took a long time before the medical students in Stockholm got their own society, but when the Karolinska Institute in the 1870's got a complete medical education, the time had finally come. Year 1876 an "Invitation to the creation of a medical society in Stockholm" was sent out. That society was then foundet April 21st, year 1877, at Hotel Fenix and at the creation it had 83 members. The society's head chairman was Oskar Medin.
An important function for the union was to create an increased connetion between students and especially between those in diffirent courses. At first the membership was optional, but after 10 years the number of students had become so large that an assembly for all students was nessecery and one enacted obliged membership. The year after that the society was given official acclaim of the University cancellor and 1896 the Intitue claimed certificates of full-made duties, to be allowe to fulfil your studies.
The original 83 members have grown to about 5000 doctoral studetns, medicine-, logopedics-, toxicology-, bio medicine-, opticians-, public healt science- and psycotherapy students and a large number of students taking free-standing courses. What the society has ben doing has varied through the years, but balls and parites have allways been arranged and of course educational quesstions had have had a central role in the context.
A quesstion that has followed us through the times is the one about localities. During the earliest years it changed locals often, but 1913 the society moved permanently to Norr Mälarstrand 12 and stayed there till 1954. That year the corps moved with Karolinska Institute to the Norrback-district and was allowed to rent a local by the Kungliga Byggnadsstyrelse.
1983 the student were replaced by books when the Institute's library had grown out from its sheath and our beloved assembly - and dining room was taken by readers. In exchange the society was given the promise possibility to buy the rest of the corps house and also build in connection to it with help from doners and own capital. In May 1985 the new corps house was finshed for installation.
