Becoming a member of MF is easy! It works like this:
Becoming a student member
A student membership is the regular membership for you if you’re in one of the Karolinska Institutet basic, master or PhD programs. You receive full privileges and all the benefits associated with a membership.
To become a student member you have to pay the student membership fee, which is SEK 195 per semester. You can also pay for one year SEK 370, if you know that you are going to be student a full year. MF retrieves your personal information from Karolinska Institutet soon after you have begun your studies at Karolinska Institutet. As soon as we have received the information we send an invoice for the membership fee to the e-mail address KI creates for you (or to another e-mail you have registered with us). On the invoice you will find all the information you need to pay your membership fee using “bankgiro” (bankgironummer: 7836026) on your internet bank. You can also pay the invoice through the use of a debit-/creditcard if you log on to Medlemsportalen, and it is usually faster than using bankgiro.
As soon as we have received your payment you are a member of Medicinska Föreningen. We will then order Mecenatkortet, which is our membership card, to your address kept in our records. It usually takes 2-3 weeks between your payment and the arrival of your card. If you during this time need proof that you are a member of us, you can log on to Medlemsportalen and print a receipt of your payment (N.B. This receipt is not accepted by SL/SJ/SAS.) for that semester.
If you are encountering any problems with becoming a member or paying the membership fee, you can read more about that in our FAQ.
Become a supportive member
If you are interested in our activities but are not studying at Karolinska Institutet, you can become a supportive member of the association one semester or one year at a time. As a supportive member you can participate in the activities of Medicinska Föreningen, except the one aimed specifically at student members. You may also not be elected to Fullmäktige or styrelsen, and you may not vote in the elections for Fullmäktige.
The full regulations concerning supportive membership are available in Swedish here.
Become a permanent member
If you have been a student member and graduated from Karolinska Institutet, or have been a student member during at least two years and then discontinued your studies, you can apply for permanent membership. Permanent membership means that you become a member of Medicinska Föreningen for the rest of your life. You can participate in the association’s acitivities, except ones specifically for active students. Also, you may not be elected to Fullmäktige or styrelsen, and you may not vote in the election for Fullmäktige.
To become a permanent member you have to make an application and pay a one-time fee of SEK 1000. The application is made on a standardized form and then sent to the office of Medicinska Föreningen. The fee (SEK 1.000) should be paid to bankgiro 783-6026 (add your name and that the payment concerns permanent membership). You can also visit the office and hand in the form and pay by credit/debit card at the same time.
